There are so many groups running throughout the Darfield Ward which cater for different interests and age groups. Many are run by volunteers who give up their time freely for the benefit of others. From Parent and Toddlers to the over 60’s groups, from Environmental to Heritage groups – Darfield really does have it all!

The South Area Team offer support for a lot of these groups and are always on hand if you or someone you know are wanting to find out what’s going on, join a group, or maybe you want advice about setting up your own activity or project? Get in touch, and we can help.

Joining a group is a great way to keep active, make new friends and learn new skills. All of these things are proven to improve our overall wellbeing and keep us happy and healthy. With the winter months upon us it’s easy for us to stay indoors and not see much of the outside world; so being involved with a group is a great excuse to get us out of the house and keep in touch with others. Here’s a taster of what’s on offer:

The Village Hall is managed by a group of volunteers and offers lots of different activities, including a ladies group, supper club and exercise class to name just a few! Visit their Facebook page to find out more about what’s on offer.

Weekly craft sessions also take place here on a Tuesday, 1:45pm until 3:45pm. Sessions are informal and cover all crafts. There’s a £2 charge, and you will need to bring with you the materials for whatever craft you fancy to fill your time. Kim is a regular member and when asked what she enjoys about the group, said: “It’s lovely to get together and talk. I like the company – it gets you out of the house.”

Ray who is also a member added: “I’m retired and like to get out of the house and have a chat.”

The South Area Team is on hand to support residents and community groups to work together to improve your community and turn your ideas into reality. We can help you find funding, put you in touch with other people who can help, and support projects that meet local needs. We are a friendly team so give us a call.
